Imelda and the Carabao – notes from the author

Imelda and the Carabao by Steven Wiseblood

Imelda and the Carabao by Steven Wiseblood

It has been a year since I wrote Imelda and the Carabao which is loosely based on my travels to the Philippines in 2012.

During my travels I learned about life on a Philippine farm, growing and harvesting rice, farming equipment as well as growing vegetables and selling them at the Philippine market.

I highly recommend  my book,  Imelda and the Carabao for anyone who wants to learn something about Philippine rural life in the  Cagayan Valley, which is  in the far northern part of Luzon.  Imelda and the Carabao is also available on AMAZON.COM and at a kindle book also. I hope that you will read it and  enjoy it!

SM City Tuguegarao

ImageSomeday, in the future, there will be an SM City Tuguegarao. I understand that plans are in the works, as we speak. The picture above shows an artists impression how SM City Tuguegarao will look when it is completed.   I have visited many SM City malls in Metro Manila area and they are always fun to shop at……..but this will be my first opportunity to visit a new SM City Mall in the Cagayan Valley!  Looking forward to shopping there when it is completed.

the Cagayan Valley rice crop

In the summer you can see rice as far as the eye can see in the Cagayan Valley.  It must surely be the Cagayan Valley’s number one exported crop.

All the rice fields make  the Cagayan Valley look so green!

The rice grows very well in the northern Philippines thanks to all the ample rainfall!

My favorite food of all time in the Philippines and thanks to my sister-in-law Gwen for taking the time to prepare these for me. There are plenty of banana plants in the Cagayan valley so it is just a matter of looking for the plants that have a banana flower on them.

Image

I wished that I still lived in a region where banana flowers are readily available…but, nevertheless, I am looking forward to my return trip to the Cagayan Valley for the great food!

This is a great lunch or dinner with a heaping scoop of white rice!

traveling through Isabela Philippines

traveling through Isabela Philippines

Image

During my seven month stay in the Philippines during 2012, I have traveled several times through Isabela province. There are many small towns, medium sized cities and two or three large cities

Image

Isabela is in the Cagayan Valley and the scenery is among the most beautiful in the Philippines. There are many valleys, hills, palm trees and rice fields.

Next time that I travel to the Philippines I want to stay a longer time in the Cagayan Valley to explore the beautiful scenery of Isabela and Cagayan!
